Don’t Count the Ravens Out Yet: Why Jacoby Brissett Can Keep Baltimore Afloat

The Baltimore Ravens made a move on Wednesday that felt inevitable following the loss of Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. The Ravens are finalizing a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, giving Baltimore an experienced option under center as they try to stay afloat in the division race. The Ravens desperately needed stability and experience at the position, and Brissett gives them exactly that.

The move makes plenty of sense when you look at where the Ravens currently stand. At 4-4 and in the middle of the AFC playoff race, Baltimore has too much talent on the roster to simply give up and wave the white flag on the season. Brissett may not be Lamar Jackson, but the Ravens do not need him to be. He can be a trustworthy veteran presence who steps into the huddle, protects the football, and keeps the offense moving. Brissett has shown throughout his career that he can quickly learn a system and execute it. On top of that, he has familiarity with Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork from their time together in both Arizona and Cleveland.

Most importantly, Brissett has a roster around him that can help him succeed. The Ravens still have a physical defense, along with one of the best running backs in football in Derrick Henry and one of the league’s most explosive wide receivers in Zay Flowers. Baltimore is not going to ask Brissett to carry the franchise on his shoulders the way Lamar Jackson often does. Instead, they simply need him to keep the offense on schedule and turn long drives into points. If Brissett can provide that steady veteran presence, he may be exactly what the Ravens need to stay afloat and remain in the playoff conversation.
